lately I have been looking for an mp3 player for swimmers! I would like one and I happened to stumble across one.....
it's called -Freestyle Audio DMP 1G-
(this is the description....Website is http://www.swimoutlet.com/product_p/6234.htm)
As an Athlete whose playing field is the water, there is much more to the experience than just getting wet. Whether you're an extreme water sport competitor or just doing it for the sheer passion, there is one element missing from the perfect set or the wildest ride; the element of music. With this in mind, Freestyle Audio has fused these two elements to introduce the world's first completely submergible and waterproof MP3 player. The freestyle Audio Digital Music Player was designed for movement in the water and to cater to the special needs of athletes and enthusiasts of all active and water sports including: surfing, wakeboarding, swimming, snowboarding, jet skiing, snow skiing, biking, running, fishing, and all paddle sports.

this would just up my love for swimming even more!! haha

anyways, in other news I have been doing well. I am finally getting over Bronchitis and laryngitis and still trying to recover from my shin splints!

CREW is going very well, we have our first regatta march 31st in Oklahoma city! Our next regattas will be in Omaha, Nebraska on April 15th and our last one in Topeka, Kansas on April 21-22nt.

need a laugh?

Texas Chili Contest

If you can read this whole story without laughing then there's no hope for you. I was crying by the end. Note: Please take time to read this slowly. If you pay attention to the first two judges, the reaction of the third judge is even better. For those of you who have lived in Texas, you know how true this is. They actually have a Chili Cook-off about the time Halloween comes around. It takes up a major portion of a parking lot at the San Antonio City Park. Judge #3 was an inexperienced Chili taster named Frank, who was visiting from Springfield, IL. Frank: "Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a Chili cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge's table asking for directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was assured by the other two judges (Native Texans) that the chili wouldn't be all that spicy and, besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted".

Here are the scorecard notes from the event:

CHILI # 1 - MIKE'S MANIAC MONSTER CHILI...
-Judge # 1 -- A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.
-Judge # 2 -- Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.
-Judge # 3 (Frank) -- Holy shit, what the hell is this stuff? You
could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beer to put the
flames out. I hope that's the worst one. These Texans are crazy.

CHILI # 2 - AUSTIN 'S AFTERBURNER CHILI...
-Judge # 1 -- Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang.
-Judge # 2 -- Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken seriously.
-Judge # 3 -- Keep this out of the reach of children. I'm not sure what
I'm supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted
to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they
saw the look on my face.

CHILI # 3 - FRED'S FAMOUS BURN DOWN THE BARN CHILI...
-Judge # 1 -- Excellent firehouse chili. Great kick.
-Judge # 2 -- A bit salty, good use of peppers.
-Judge # 3 -- Call the EPA. I've located a uranium spill. My nose feels like
I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now.
Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back, now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I'm getting shit-faced from all of the beer.

CHILI # 4 - BUBBA'S BLACK MAGIC...
-Judge # 1 -- Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.
-Judge # 2 -- Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a chili.
-Judge # 3 -- I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds?
Sally, the beer maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. That 300-LB woman is starting to look HOT...just like this nuclear waste I'm eating! Is chili an aphrodisiac?

CHILI # 5 LISA'S LEGAL LIP REMOVER...
-Judge # 1 -- Meaty, strong chili. Cayenne peppers freshly ground, adding considerable kick. Very impressive.
-Judge # 2 -- Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must admit the cayenne peppers make a strong statement.
-Judge # 3 -- My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted and four people behind
me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue
from bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I'm burning my lips off. It really pisses me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming. Screw those rednecks.

CHILI # 6 - VERA'S VERY VEGETARIAN VARIETY...
-Judge # 1 -- Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spices and peppers.
-Judge # 2 -- The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, and garlic. Superb.
-Judge # 3 -- My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, sulfuric flames.
I shit on myself when I farted and I'm worried it will eat through the chair. No one seems
inclined to stand behind me except that Sally. Can't feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my ass with a snow cone.

CHILI # 7 - SUSAN'S SCREAMING SENSATION CHILI...
-Judge # 1 -- A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers.
-Judge # 2 -- Ho hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of chili peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I am worried about Judge # 3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is cursing uncontrollably.
-Judge # 3 -- You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn't feel a thing. I've lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili, which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava to match my shirt. At least during the autopsy, they'll know what killed me. I've decided to stop breathing it's too painful. Screw it; I'm not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I'll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole in my stomach.

CHILI # 8 - BIG TOM'S TOENAIL CURLING CHILI...
-Judge # 1 -- The perfect ending, this is a nice blend chili. Not too bold but spicy enough to declare its existence.
-Judge # 2 -- This final entry is a good, balanced chili. Neither mild nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge #3 farted, passed out, fell over and pulled the chili pot down on top of himself. Not sure if he's going to make it. Poor feller, wonder how he'd have reacted to really hot chili? -
-Judge # 3-- No Report.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Taking it easy!!!

I went to the doctor on Friday and found out a lot of stuff about my leg that I was not expecting!

Dr. Barrett first looked at my leg and asking if this hurt when pushing here and so on. Just form that I found out that it was shin splints. I have severe inflammation from the inside of my knee all the way down to the inside of my ankle (*insert facial exertion and with words of your choice*). Then he asked me to stand up......I did and the look of his face....well, you can just imagine! Dr. Barrett told me that my feet pronate inward.

This is what my feet look like when I am running and walking.

So, now I have to have physical therapy 3 - 4 times a week for 4 weeks....Ugh! But, this is going to be something I need to do. Oh , and I have to ice my leg as often I can!

I was worried that I wasn't going to be able to do CREW but amazing enough I CAN, YAY! I can't run till this heals or till my physical therapist says I can. I can do is this: swim, stationary bike, lift weights from waist up and row! That is enough to make me happy! If I wasn't able to do CREW I would be so pissed, I have put so much time into this and already paid my dues and I hate quitting in the middle of an activity!

please to who ever reads this take care of yourself!

have a wonderful day and God Bless.

Getting my feet wet!

This week has been a crazy one! Earlier in the week at CREW practice we went running out side...I liked it but my shins didn't!! I think I have been train a little to hard (I think I talked about it in my last post.....). Long story short my shin splints have been getting worse. I am getting to the point where it really hurts to walk. The doctor told me that I CAN NOT run for a week and have to ice my legs as often as I can and will see him on friday for x-rays just to be safe! The good thing is about this is that I can swim. That just puts a smile on my face.

Today was fun...I got a call from one of my friends from CREW asking me if I would like to go rowing on the lake today!! That was pretty awesome I have to admit. I know some people just don't get excited easily about stuff like this.....BUT I do! (side note...When I commit myself to something I go for it like I have my eye on a target and won’t stop till I hit it dead on.) This is the first time that I have ever done on my own with out bringing someone with me. I am really proud of myself because the people that know me...Know that is really hard for me to do. I am extremely shy! It feels good to break my mold a little and stretch my arms. I have realized something today with help from my mom, she told me that I was really competitive! When I was out on the water with everyone I was just wanting to do my best, I asked a lot of questions only because I just want to know the mechanics and so on. I worried that they thought I was asking to many questions or asking the samething over and over again. But that is the only way that I can get it to stick! Again, for those that know me know that it's hard for me to ask questions...But I am getting better at it. I think I just need to just relax.....Right? I working on that one!! haha

I feel........

hm, today started out great with CREW! We ran for a warm up and then did a little more running (outside)...It was great, I really tried to see how far I could go with out walking. I only stopped 2 times in 10min. The group also ERGed! I think the only thing left really to say is I have found my new hobby!

moving on with my day, I had my nutrition class canceled...YAY! Studied for an hour at the library before heading off to take my Lifespan exam. Which I think I did pretty good on and last but not least I headed back to the colvin to work out again. I went swimming! I started that back up sense last Friday! The crazy thing about today...I realized something. Sense last Friday I have increased my work out by 30 min each day! CRAZY!!! But today I went an extra 30mins (total -3 1/2 hour work out)! When I got out I couldn't believe how long I was in the water! I out swam everyone in the pool! I must have really missed swimming, huh?

I haven't swan like this sense high school!!! I guess swimming just comes easy to me!

in other news, I am doing a triathlon in may with rebecca! i am so excited and nervise, only because i don't know if i am going to have enough time to train for it! the count down till then starts now!

It's so cold......

This morning I woke up to my room being very very cold. The temperature was about 56 degrees and I had my fan on! The only thing I can blame it on is my stupid dorm gnome that like to fallow me around at college and tries to make me like miserable.

To make matters worse I have been trying to do my homework for the last hour in half and I tried fixing my heat by putting new batteries in it but it's still at 60 degrees. It's taken an hour just to up a few degrees! :-/

if you still don't know what I am talking about here is an exert that I wrote on my brothers blog about my personal gnome! So enjoy! My brothers link (http://www.darrendurrett.com/?p=50#comments )

Oh, haha don’t even get me started on the Gnomes! Dorm Gnomes to be exact and instead of a personal angel…I have personal Gnome. Ok, first let me just clarify something! I always thought that I was the clumsiest person in the world and on my recent trip to Europe … my group confirmed it when they certified me as the clumsiest of the entire group of 45! (Don’t worry I am going to get to my point of the Dorm Gnomes in a second, I just have to explain something about my personal Gnome!) I tripped over my feet almost tipping over two parked mopeds…not at the same time but 2 for the total. Then, I missed a curb completely somewhere in Rome and probably in front of some HOT Italian guy to add to my luck. THEN… tripping on the train step with my luggage and loosing my shoe in the process; I swear that Gnome took my shoe and threw it under the train and the list goes on! DAMN GNOME! Well, back at school my friends also can’t believe how many times my car/dorm keys, cell phone, and OSU ID ends up missing! I have gone threw seven ID’s, yes I said S E V E N id’s costing $17 each. Not only that but, I somehow managed to loose my keys every morning. I can remember specifically placing my three things – keys, cell phone, id - in their designated spot on the corner edge of my fridge and I would wake up and they would be MIA … somewhere else! GEH , how I love waking up for class and those three precious things I need to survive at college end up on the floor underneath something and send me in to panic mode. I spent those 10 minutes that could have allowed me a nice slow walk to class but now it’s a mad dash to find those 3 things that are so precious and run like a bat oWellf hell….well more like an elderly woman trying to master the art of power walking in a neighborhood, but the way it looks on me, well it’s like someone who is half way to class and realizes that they have to go to the bathroom. Just picture it, I’m pumping my arms up and down, squeezing my butt tight in an attempt to not walk funny, with my backpack swishing side to side in an attempt to keep from being thrown off balance; hence the clumsiness (which I know is my Gnominess) that is all due to my DAMN dorm gnome, argh! I can bet that I will have another one this year, so let the fun began. I think I should just keep those three things permanently attached to me, but I bet you my little friend will find some way to take them from me even it I do that, so my story is to be continued….. and it has! hahaha here i go again! OH, HELL!

i really don't know how to start my blog entries.....i have recognized a pattern in how i start....like to use: um, so, well and so on and so......i really do get better at this! haha

anyways, CREW has been great...i love it so far, i actually look forward to getting up and working out at 6am! i just got back from my 2nt work out of the day. this morning we did a half mile run for warm up, a circuit work out, then erged the last bit of our work out. this evening i worked out with 2 fellow crew members, ran a few laps for warm up, then went start to the ergs for a 30min work out, and for the final bit we did an ab work out. all in all it was a good work out for me today. i feel pretty good about myself!

other then that my life hasn't been to bad. school is...well it's school. oh, and before i forget it's valentine's day.....i am not going to add anymore to that so happy valentine's day.

DAMNIT......WHY.....

well, as you can see from the title of this one......i haven't had a good day. as most of you know...I HAVE A LEARNING DISABILITY, not just one but 3. I have Dyslexia, Auditory Processing Disorders, and A.D.D.

there is no easy way to put this....sometimes just have rough days with my disability. i was sitting in class and the teacher's asst. who was directing the nutrition discussion started to tell us what we needed to do for the inclass work....well, i have a hard time with math .....and that is what we happened to do in our discussion. i was afraid to say that i needed help...well i just waited while everyone left so i could go talk to the T.A. and see what i can do.

my point is that...people like me have rough days. i absolutely hate dealing with this every single day of my life. i try to let my friends know about it...but they just don't understand. i know that they won't think different of me. i wish they could really understand what i go through. when i have days like this it hurts so bad some days i just feel like i am only 2 inches tall.

if i had a wish.....i wish that i could trade brains with just one person for one day to see what it would be like to read a text book in 2hrs. rather then 4 to 5 hrs. and do homework in half the time it takes me to do mine. that is what i would wish for if it was granted.

i know i have this problem for a reason (i just don't know why...yet) and i just have to trust.

but as of right now i just want to be upset and deal with it slowly. i really hate this....but at the same time i accept it.

before i say anything......check out the osu crew blog : http://okstatecrew.wordpress.com/

well, i had my 2nd day of crew practice this morning!!! Everyone ERGed, we had to get in a group of 4 or more and have a mine relay race. but first they showed us (the new-bes) the proper way to row! it was awesome, one of the guys that was on my team told me that i did really good for a first timer, hahaha! each person had to pull for 500 meters. after we got done there we went down to the corts to stretch, do an ab class and then a little more stretching.

it was a good morning!

say it with me...
