Well, guys guess what I did tonight? I went to the colvin and worked out! YAY! I told myself that I was going to start working out starting in Nov....Well, tonight was the 1st and I feel pretty damn good.

I am starting myself off slow because little miss brenden hasn't worked out in a long time. I traded off walking and running for 30min. and maybe as I get in shape and build my way up to longer times of running then walking...but I think you get what I am saying!

so hopefully I can keep this up. I bet I can! *think positive* ....right?

anyways, life is GREAT and loving my dorm floor. AWWW.......SNAP!

Tony said: "don't forget about us"

It's that time again! It's homecoming and we are playing A & M. The week is filled with things to do and things to buy like t-shirts, hoodies, and so on and so forth! Well, I came across this booth that wasn't with homecoming stuff or at least I think so. But anyways, it was a booth to support the invisible children in Uganda, Africa.

last year in my pol. sci. class we watched a video or documentary about these amazing children and how they try to stay safe from the military and their journey to just stay alive. The video was very touching and I would like to encourage you to take a look at the website and what we could do to make a difference. I know I did when I bought the shirt. The money is going straight to those kids to aid them for things they need. I don't know about you but that makes me feel damn good that I am trying to help someone I have never met.

the website is www.invisiblechildren.com

take care everyone

Preacher BOB......This guy is CRAZZZZZY....trust me

ok for all of you who don't know who Preacher Bob is....well he is a crazy crazy man that comes on our campus to preach the word of God. Well, maybe just his.

Most of the time people go just to see what he has to say and see what he is going to do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F8L7aZHFNQ - this is one of his videos that one of the students taped! check it out!

and here is some other videos ..... http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=search_videos&search_query=preacher%20bob&search_sort=&search_category=0&page=1

the guy is stupid crazy! I laugh every time I go to see him speak. The stuff he says has nothing to do with the word of GOD.

let me know what you think!!!

Hey, Darren! I just read your blog and I feel the same way! Well, not totally but for the most part over loaded! I really hate the feeling that you get in your chest and shoulders when you get stressed or think about it and it turns into that. I have a lot on my plate as of right now and novmember.

2006 football Schedule:

09/02 Missouri St@ OSU (52-10 win)
09/09 OSU @ Arkansas St (35-7 win)
09/16 FAU @ OSU (48-8 win)
09/23 OSU @ Houston (34-25 loss)
10/07 OSU @ Kansas St (31-27 loss)

10/14 OSU @ Kansas 1:00 PM

10/21 Texas A&M @ OSU 6:05 PM
10/28 Nebraska @ OSU 6:00 PM
11/04 OSU @ Texas TBD
11/11 Baylor @ OSU 6:00 PM
11/18 OSU @ Texas Tech 1:00 PM
11/25 Oklahoma @ OSU 1:30 PM
that is just what is left (in the blue!) and I still have a lot to go.
I have a quiz in early American history over ch. 6,7, and 8.
I have a sarvsafe exam next Wednesday over a few chapters.
I have extra credit I need to work on just in case for a class and then go to band MWF 4:00 to 6:00! Huh! Oh and I have some group projects that are due some time in November….mom…dad…don’t worry I got it covered. Anyways, I just feel so smashed with stuff to do it is making it a little nerve racking! But don’t get me wrong this year has been the best I have had yet! Can I just stop time and catch my breath! Hahaha I wish…..maybe at Christmas! Who knows! I just have to push my faith and trust.

Is Christmas break here yet!?

Well, life has been crazy busy with school and A LOT of thinking too.

I want to talk about band......

Band has been apart of me since the 6th grade and it’s something I can count on when I need some fun. Just recently things have started to change. It’s starting to feel like work…to much work and to be honest it is starting to stress me out just a little. I have talked to a few people that I know in band about how they feel and see if it was just me…..I still don’t know….I guess it could be me. But one thing I know is that I am not a quitter. The only thing I ever quit in my life was swimming. I had to choose between marching band or the swim team. The reason for that is I was way to overloaded with those 2 things and school work. I cried and fought with my diction for a month and finally made my decision. I chose band over swim. I left with only 2seconds away from making it to state…but at the same time I felt a loud lift from my shoulders. Now the time has come again to make yet another decision. I think is going to be my last year in the cowboy marching band. I hate saying that because it’s nice feeling when someone finds out that you are apart of that and tell you that’s awesome. But sometimes you just have to let go. Sometimes I don’t want to go to band because I know have homework and sit there thinking I shouldn’t be here I should be doing something else and sometimes I feel like I just want out right now but I know that I have to finish this semester out and be done with it. Is it a bad thing to think that? Just the thought of not being in band is a weird thing to think out about.

Ok, on a lighter note my friend Donnie and I are going to the blue man group in November! We have floor seats…YAY!

p.s. sorry for the lame update and I will try and make the next one a little happier!

what type of music are you?

^^^^^ this is a really good shoundtrack! i have yet to see the movie but i have heard GOOD things about it! so this is on my top list of movies to go see! No Man's Land by Sufjan Stevens is the best song on the cd! Well, for starters, if you haven't already noticed but MUSIC is my life!

Have you ever thought about what type of music you really like and how it defines you? i have! i thought about it walking back from class a few minutes ago and i like most types of music! which can be a pretty big rang!

For me, if i were going to define a mood with a song/album/band it would look like this:

  • music to shake my bum to - anything with a fun beat like dance (stating the obvice), techno, and anthing from the 80's area! (ex.: Benny Benassi & The Bliz, Sufjan Stevens, and blondie)
  • " " that i can relax to - classical, jazz, religious, and more! (ex.: Keith Jarrett, anything from classical composers, Jars of Clay, and Nat King Cole)
well, you get my point! :o)

i have a story for ya'll! so, here it goes! In high school my best friend and i were talking one day after class and some how the topic of veggie tales came up and then out of knowhere we started sing "the cheeseburger song" by then and it had gotten stuck in our heads for the rest of the day and eventually we put it on a cd and drove around town with the windows down and singing in the wrong tone (on purpose) to see what poeple would do when they saw us! It's funny how a song can get stuck in your head and then many years down the road you hear that song and you almost relive that momment. Oh, and just for the record......I LOVE THOSE MOMMENTS!

The Chronicles of Marching Band

This year is a new start for the cowboy marching band! Why, you ask? Well, for starters we have a new director! He has performed with the United States Marine Band at Quantico, serving as the principal trumpet. I really like the way he runs things! He is straight to the point, and when he gives us water breaks he actually gives us the time he tell us (10 minutes).

Here is a quote from a good friend of mine, Dan Brooks (referring to OSU Cowboy Band) and I don’t think he could have put it any better! “The band this year kicks ass. Like, we already kicked your band's ass. But now your band should just ... I dunno, quit. Don't bring your shiznat up in hur. (For the record, we're playing "Gold Digger" by Kanye West this year. In the stands. Blech.)”.

So, with this I will share with you, my Chronicles

I am going to take you way back to when I first started to explain the intense, insane, fun, and extremely rewarding trip that I have had being in Marching Band. It all started in 6th grade and I got my hand-me-down trombones from my brother (thanks, by the way)! To make this short and simple, form 6th to 8th grade I had to spend an agonizing hour of one class period sitting in a chair that put my butt to sleep and then I stood up it felt like I have a huge hole where my butt was! Trust me that is a weird feeling in it’s own way! But don’t get me wrong it was still fun but when you are border line ADD, it’s so hard to focus!

Author’s note: for those who how have never been in marching band before let me lay down just a few things that we have to do!
1.) Stand up straight
2.) Keep heels and toes together
3.) Stand at attention
4.) Don’t lock your knees (trust me, we have had people faint)
5.) Hold your horn 10’ above of your holding position
6.) Squeeze the vertical smile, or squeeze the grape (as one band director used to call it) for balance and air control for playing
7.) Keep equal spacing between the people around you
8.) Memorize your music
9.) Watching the drum major
10.) Keep in step with everyone
11.) Count
12.) Keep your toes up as high as you can and roll through the step!
13.) And don’t forget any part to your uniform (like the Plumb…it’s that funny looking thing with feathers on top of space plus I have more exciting things to share!

Throughout high school every summer and about two weeks before school I would head off to good ole’ band camp! For some reason it was always the hottest time of the year when we started band camp. I kind of felt sorry for the homes that were right by the field we practiced on because they got a wake up call at 8:00 in the morning from us!

As the weeks came to a close we had that oh so active farmers tan on the arms, the raccoon tan from the sunglasses, and the short and sock tan as well! Oh yeah we all were stylish when the first week of school started! But the thing I loved in high school was how we became a family, everyone new everyone and we all just hung out in the band hall in-between class.

For those who don’t know what the band hall is, well I will tell you! The band hall was where most of the “bando’s” hung out (I will explain that term later) and most of the school didn’t set foot in that hall for who knows what reason! But I knew someone who was scared to come hang out in that hall! I was like come on! She looked at me like “heck no you all are……?” I looked at her and said, “Ok, look we don’t bite and trust me it really is not that scary!” That really did happen! But I just can’t fathom that you’d be so scared! We “bando’s” are just like everyone one else, we just march and play instruments! My friend said, “Anyways, in school no one cares about the band!” But I just don’t get it! Our foot ball team was *cough* terrible *cough*! They didn’t win any of their games while the band won more trophies and competitions in one year than the football team did in one year!

Okay, now that I got that out, I can tell you what a “bando” is! The word “bando” is a new, improved, and up-to-date meaning of “band nerd.” Now, a band nerd is someone who lives, eats, and breathes band, and only like a regular nerd in that we all make the highest grades in school. Loose the pocket protector, big glasses, and lack of social skills and…well you get my point! A bando is kind of like - serious - but more up-to-date and way cooler than the average nerd! Bando’s actually have a life outside of band since we are all friends! We act and look just like everyone one else except ….can you guess?.....*insert the thinking theme of Jeopardy*…..ding… times up! It’s band!

Fast-forward to college! Freshman year. I kind of already knew what to expect but at the same time … not! For starters Cowboy Band Camp was so much easier, not as intense. One thing I was not ready for was learning a new show every week! I HAVE TO WHAT?... I thought and was like I can’t do that! But come to find out it was SO easy! The music was short but fun and the sets where easy!

One thing I will never forget was when the band practiced in the OSU stadium for the first time! WOW! That was something I will NEVER forget. I can remember thinking man this is AWESOME! People will actually care to see the band! Oh, and I almost forgot, whenever we got to go on away games…we were given money! Yep, money! It was nice! Sophomore year came and went! Now it’s Junior year. It feels great because this year is going to “rock my socks off!”

Well, this year at band camp went by so fast! It felt like yesterday we just got started. We lost a lot of people in our section! We went from 33 trombones … down to 21! YIKES! I may have to start recruiting or something!

Every year we get new people, or rookies as we call them and well we have to teach them the traditions of the band! That is a little scary at times only because some things are hard to grasp! Like for instance the run-on (our signature move when coming on the field). It’s hard to explain so if you see me, ask me about the run-on and I will show you how to do it! To put it briefly, it is a dip sort of move. You stand on your toes and hold your arms straight out bent at the elbows and when the beat of the drum-line starts well you mark time in place with your feet (not letting your heals touch the ground…that is a no no!) and every so often we say “Go STATE” at the same moment saying that you dip down and bring your left leg up … and your move your arms slightly to the beat! In a nutshell that is what the run-on is!

The End

hopefully there will be more short stories later!

You know you’re a bando when….?
1.) You know you’re a bando when…you see anther fellow bando and the first thing y’all talk about is band!
2.) You know you’re a bando when…you get your schools fight song stuck in your head.
3.) You know you’re a bando when…have that ridiculously HOT farmers tan.
4.) And you know you’re a bando when…someone finds out your in band and say “one time at band camp!”

comments are welcome....so don't be shy! :o)

moving!

So, yet again I am at a loss of thought for the blog at the moment! I am going to save what I really want to talk about for just a little long! Oh the anticipation! Can ya’ll wait just a few more days? I promise it will be worth it!

Well, I am getting ready to move into my new dorm room this weekend! YAY! Oh the excitement! Uh well my getting my new room but not the moving part! But I thing anyone can agree with me on that. One thing I know is those Gnomes better watch out because I am not going to let them run with my keys this time! I really hope that I don’t have a white wall room like I did last semester! I felt like I was in an institution for college students! They have got to have some color or at least some color on the carpet. But if not I have got my white wall problem solved! FABRIC! I will cover one boring bang my head on the wall white with colored fabric. hmm, I wonder how much it will cost to cover one wall in my room?.....

Got Nothin'!

Well, for my first posting on my blog spot I have nothing! Hmmmm. I was just trying to gather my thoughts and getting ready to lay it out and this it hits me….nothing. That is what came over me. Now, in this case I am going to call it my “nothing bug”. Have you ever had a moment were you are going to tell someone something and you are so pumped and ready for our spill AND THEN it happens, the nothing bug comes up and takes your story, comment, thought, etc. away form you. I don’t now but that makes me so mad!

Now that I have some of my creative juices flowing I think I can start my “bloggage”
